Monday ~ Girl Scouts

Monday was a much better day! We did some school work in the morning and spent the afternoon preparing for GS. We had a great meeting! I was worried at first because Amy (my asst. leader) called and said that Hannah and she were sick so they would not be coming. I called Laura (Brook’s mom, my usual back up) and she said that she could not stay. So I called Tammy (Lauren’s mom). Yea, she said she could stay! I did not want to cancel the meeting! Well the way things worked out … I had 6 girls and 5 parents (including Kalie and I). Laura was able to stay, in fact all of the parents stayed. LOL! It was great! We worked on 6 activities and 4 different try its. It was so nice to have lots of help and everyone had so much fun. I am beginning to love our troop. I really want more girls but am happy where we are.

Sunday ~ The hustle and bustle caught up with us.

Sunday morning we went to church. Kalie had Ms. Meredith (her favorite) as her Sunday morning teacher, which was GREAT! (Our church rotates the teachers on a six week schedule which is not very good for Kalie.) The sermon was very thought provoking.

We made our usual trip to Wal-Mart for a newspaper and Sunday treat. We also bought cake mix for Katie’s Birthday cake. Our community group celebrates birthdays and Katie’s is coming up soon (march 5th). Since she only had to work until 6:00 (which is rare) we choose to celebrate it early! Kalie made her a wonderful funfetti cake!

We spent the afternoon watching movies, baking and relaxing. Kasie had big projects, papers and tests to prepare for, so we took her back to NGU around 2:00. Kalie and I ran a few errands and then arrived at Melissa’s house (community group) around 5:45 (only 15 min late). Dinner was great, Katie got there earlier than expected and everyone was happy!

Then our melt down … it was time for cake. Kalie was so excited. We took the foil off the cake and the icing had gotten smushed.

So all of her hard work was ruined! The cake was terrible! Everyone hated it! No one was ever going to like her again! Katie was going to find a new better little sister! (All Kalie’s words.) She cried and cried.

We all ate the cake, it was wonderful. I think the past few days of busyness had caught up with her. We left after dessert and missed the sermon discussion and prayer time. I know that it has affected how I feel this week but as a mom you have to do what is best for your kids. Kalie needed to go home to regroup and clam down. She has not had a melt down in a few weeks. She has made wonderful progress and will continue to get better (I hope). So it was right to leave.

We spent the rest of the night just chilling. Katie decided to stay home and return to school very early the next morning. She is a great big sister!

Saturday ~ Still Busy!

Saturday was just as busy. Katie and Kasie kept Kalie for the morning while I worked another cookie booth. They had a great LAZY morning early afternoon. They had donuts for breakfast and ice cream for lunch. Maybe Katie isn’t so responsible after all? LOL!

Our cookie booth did not go as well as the night before. We were there for 3 ½ hours and only sold 55 boxes. But I did have a great talk with one of the moms. So it was a good experience.

I picked Kalie up at the mall at about 2:00. (Katie and Kasie both had to work Sat. evening.) We came home and did yucky chores. We had to take the garbage to the dump (we do not have garbage pick up where we live), vacuum out Katie’s car, do dishes, straighten up the house, etc. I made a deal with Kalie (she loves deals, LOL!). If she was cooperative and helpful, we would get pizza (Little Caesar’s) and a movie (Movie Gallery). She was! Yea!

We ordered our pizza and went to the video store. Shocker … Movie Gallery is closing! Now the only place to rent movies in our town is at Ingall’s (the grocery store). They did have a good sale on used movies though. We bought a movie called Ociee Nash. We probably would not have seen it if not for the closing sale. It was the best movie about a “tom boy” at the turn of the century. It fit in very well with our pioneer theme. I am so glad we bought it! We went home ate pizza and watched our new movie! Our days have been better more often than not lately.

Friday ~ Busy day!

Friday we met Katie (oldest daughter) and Scott (the autistic boy she does ABA therapy with) for a “day out”. His mom was at the first IEP meeting with the school district, he will start 4K in August.

Our plans were to go to Monkey Joes (an indoor jumping fun fest which could have been a great long activity) but with the cold, rainy weather it was packed. Not a good idea for a 7 year old with anxiety and a 3 ½ year old with autism. So … we went to the Greenville Zoo (we have a membership so it was free). It was so cold, but nice because we had the place to ourselves. We spent about 40 minutes in the reptile house (They loved the icky, slimy, gross things!) and about 40 minutes on the rest of the Zoo. We went out to lunch at Mellow Mushroom which has the best pizza, pita bread and hummus in the world! After we finished we headed over to the main library to check out their children’s section. Robin (Scott’s mom) met us there. After about 45 minutes there we went to Chick-Fil-A to have Lemonade and playtime. We lasted there about 30 minutes. (His limit before he gets agitated is about 20-30 minutes, I thought we did well.) I then suggested that we go back to my house to play! I was getting tired. LOL! Everyone came back home. Kalie and Scott played for an hour.

The day made me realize how fortunate I am to have such great kids! Kalie was so kind and patient with Scott. She let him be the leader and followed very well the entire day. She tried to comfort him if he seemed as if he was getting anxious. She also tried to “do therapy” with him copying Katie’s example. It was very cute. Kalie would have made a great big sister. I was also so impressed with the woman my daughter Katie is becoming. She was very professional and kind to Scott. She kept a watchful eye all day and did an amazing job!

I know that she is following the path she should. It takes a special person to commit themselves to work with Special Ed. Katie wants to teach SE for 4 to 6 years to pay back her forgivable loans. While she is doing that she wants to work on getting her masters in Autistic Therapy. Her main goal (passion) is working with autistic kids. I am so proud of her!

Kalie and I had to leave at around 3:45 because we had a Girl Scout Cookie Booth. The booth sale went wonderful! We sold 76 boxes of cookies in 2 hours! Yea us! (To quote London Tipton. LOL!) Our troop is doing wonderful! The day ended with Katie and Kalie playing video games. They laughed and had quality sister time. It was a great day!

Stay home days!

Wednesday and Thursday (the 20th and 21st) were a stay home days! I am beginning to love the stay home days! Kalie and I spent two relaxing days just floating from one activity/project to another. We did the entire weeks math, writing and reading lessons in just thoes two days. We also added to her science notebook and worked on our pioneer unit, plus more that I can not recall at this moment.
